Cake Decorating Contest for Teens & Families

In recognition of the role parents play in their children's school success as well as the achievement of high educational standards in the Commonwealth, November 2008 has been declared Family Literacy Month in Massachusetts.

The Brewster Ladies’ Library is one of many libraries across the state celebrating Family Literacy Month with special activities for the entire family. On Sunday, November 9, at 1:00 p.m. the library will host a first ever cake decorating contest.

The contest will feature two divisions with two categories in each division. Participants may register in the Teen (ages 12-18) or Family division and can elect to compete in the “Book-themed” or “Baker’s Choice” categories.

Teens ages twelve to eighteen can enter as individuals, or in teams (up to four members).
There is no limit to the number of family members allowed on a team, but each family may only submit one cake for judging.

In each division, contestants may choose to create a “Book-themed” cake decorated to represent a scene or character from a favorite book, or enter the “Baker’s Choice” category. Cakes entered in the “Baker’s Choice” category may be decorated in any style.

All teams are required to bring a fully-baked, undecorated cake or cake pieces, and decorating supplies to the library on the day of the event. (There will be no cooking of any kind allowed on library premises.) Teams will then have two hours to frost, decorate, and assemble their cakes for judging.

For more information, rules, and entry forms, please visit the Brewster Ladies’ Library at 1822 Main St. in Brewster, or online at http://www.brewsterladieslibrary.org.
